Global Public Health

The foundation of Global Public Health is health and social equity in the pursuit of individual and community well-being worldwide.

Please note: Dominican is no longer accepting applications for the Global Public Health program effective Spring 2025. You can still apply to the or minors.

The Global Public Health Program is designed to educate the next generation of globally-conscious and community-engaged leaders who are dedicated to equity in health and well-being in California and around the world.

Learn the fundamental and multidisciplinary knowledge of population health through hands-on courses that provide real world experiences via the following methods:

  • Service-Learning and internships with community partners
  • International opportunities
  • Student-led, faculty-guided research projects in the Senior Capstone.

The Global Public Health curriculum is designed to help graduates secure professional jobs or admission to graduate school. By graduation, the program’s students are prepared to:

  • Assess the health and well-being of individuals, communities, and populations
  • Conduct evidence-based research in global public health
  • Design and evaluate public health programs
  • Effectively advocate as ethical leaders and global citizens
  • Effectively communicate in oral, written, electronic, and visual forms to engage diverse audiences in global public health issues

Career Paths

Students receiving a degree in Global Public Health are prepared for a range of careers in health education, epidemiology, international health, environmental health, maternal and child health, public health and medical research, clinic and nonprofit management, health informatics and more.

A commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion are necessary in order to meet the challenges of contemporary public health, both locally and globally. The Global Public Health major embraces the diversity that contributes to our learning community, including diversity in race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, immigration status, language, and life experience. The Global Public Health major also recognizes the profound impact of the systemic marginalization of populations based upon the very diversity that we celebrate. This impact is manifested in the health disparities that so often lie at the core of public health research and practice. The Global Public Health major affirms its commitment to creating and uplifting diversity, equity and inclusion in its content, teaching, learning outcomes, and community building.
