The Master of Science (MS) in Education at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ of California is a research-driven and immersive program that prepares you for a variety of leadership roles in education.

Dominican’s MS in Education offers an immersive experience in a variety of educational settings. Design and implement your own culminating project to advocate for policies and practices that promote educational equity and social justice. 

Masters in Education Program Highlights

Admissions and Financial Aid

A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution of higher education is required to apply to our graduate programs.

    A brief essay (500 words) describing professional and/or personal goals and reasons for obtaining a graduate degree
  6. Personal Interview
    Interview with program director, if necessary.
  7. International Applicants
    International candidates must meet additional admissions requirements.

Please note: Criminal background checks, or information relating to a student’s criminal background, are not used as part of the admissions process at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ of California (DUOC). Students should be aware that some programs train students to sit for the State of California or national licensure and certification examinations that qualify them to work in the field relating to their program of choice.

The following programs constitute a list of 2021/2022 DUOC programs that train for licensure or certification: Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physicians Assistants, Counseling Psychology, Art Therapy (Marriage & Family Therapy), and Education. 

Students with questions relating to criminal background requirements, who wish to enroll in these programs at DUOC should speak to an Academic Advisor and reference the specific qualifications for degree completion, and license or certification. 

If an application deadline falls on a weekend and/or holiday, applications will be accepted through the end of the next business day.

Concentrations

Along with their preliminary teaching credential, students will earn a Master of Science in Education Teacher Leadership. Credential options include: Preliminary Multiple Subject, Preliminary Single Subject, Preliminary Education Specialist Mild/Moderate, Dual Preliminary  Education Specialist Mild/Moderate + Multiple or Single Subject Credential, and a  Preliminary Education Specialist Mild/Moderate Credential for those who already hold a (Multiple or Single Subject Credential). Students complete an 8-unit core course sequence during the summer, 8 units of required coursework in the Department of Education, and 16 elective units selected across multiple graduate fields including business, art therapy, applied sport and performance psychology and counseling psychology or education. The elective course selection is based on individual interests and is subject to availability and department approval. Learn more about learning outcomes and courses on our .

Program Format and Career Paths

The Master of Science in Education offers a flexible online program.

Students can earn their degree in combination with a preliminary teaching credential or as an independent program of study. If enrolled in a preliminary credential preparation program, students earn a Masters in Education degree through completion of an additional 8 units of core coursework during the summer after receiving their credential.

Students receiving this degree are prepared for a wide variety of leadership positions in public schools, school districts, and educational non-profits. Graduates are also ready to pursue careers that provide support to students or advance teaching and learning outside of traditional school settings.
