Barowsky Business Students Gain Full-Time Jobs Prior to Graduation

With graduation two months away, a growing number of business students at Dominican already have secured notable full-time positions before graduation in May.

They will walk from Commencement into jobs with companies such as Merrill Lynch, Alliant Group, LinkedIn, BPM, Peloton, and the corporate office of Restoration Hardware.

“There are a number of reasons why the Barowsky School of Business is so successful with this, with the over-arching theme of the b-school being focused on and supportive of preparing students for their careers,” says Courtney Budesa, Director of Internships and Professional Development.

Courtney is a full-time staff member who works solely with business students (undergrads and MBAs) to help coach them with their job search, talk with them about career options, help them find internships to make them more marketable upon graduation, and meet regularly with employers hiring in the San Francisco Bay Area. She credits classes such as Business Communications and Exploring the World of Business (EWB) for preparing students for professional communication and life after college.

In addition, Dominican business students are given numerous opportunities to meet and network with representatives of major companies in the area. For example, last month, BSB students connected with more than two dozen recruiters from a variety of industries, including finance, government, construction, marketing, sports, public service, and IT during the business school’s annual Career Fair in Guzman Lecture Hall.

This was a valuable opportunity for the students to engage in meaningful, one-on-one interactions with employers in order to network and explore career and internship opportunities. Employers participating in the fair included Bank of Marin, Charles Schwab, First Republic Bank, Juice Beauty, the Golden Gate Bridge District, The County of Marin, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, Nelson Staffing, Restoration Hardware, and TekSystems.

Furthermore, business students at Dominican can tap onto a strong alumni.

“We call upon our alumni for career panels, classroom speakers, and networking events,” Courtney says. “These alumni are crucial in helping our students make connections and get their foot in the door at top companies in the area.”
